Nut Hawai'i had been cultivating Hawaii's most sought-after nut since 1926. Nut Hawai'i has created a delightful variety of macadamia nut treats for local families and friends on the Islands. Officially from 2011, Nut Hawai'i serves customers around the globe and introduces the very first exclusive membership to share our graceful orchard with members who deserve the best.
Launching our pioneer club in summer 2011, we promote and practice sustainability, organic farming and agroforestry concepts exclusively for our loyal customers -- now they call our orchard yours and enjoy produce from their labeled trees.

Our Caretaker -- The New Generation of Organic Farmers
Who will grow our food in the future? Industrial farms, or family farms?
Our Caretaker Team is a group of new generation of organic farmers taking the lead in producing high quality food for the future while caring for our environment. Nut Hawai'i started a program called 'Nut Caretaking' to nurture a new generation of organic farmers.
Heart
Our Caretakers are the heart of the organic revolution that we are taking part here in Hawaii.
There is a quiet revolution going on in response to concerns over how corporate agriculture affects the environment, particularly in Aloha State here. The organic marketplace has grown 20% per year, bringing new opportunity for farmers to bring a fresh face to agriculture. We are facilitating the growth by actively involving in educating our Caretakers and other young farmers we know. This movement of today is changing the way people think about their food.

Hope
Our Caretakers are breathing new life into the rural landscape.
Organic farming is a craft, and the return of youth and think-organic way to farming brings hope to the rural landscape that has been decimated by industrial chemical agriculture. Our Caretakers take the knowledge and traditions of the past and the best natural technologies of the future, making our Farm of today the hope of tomorrow.

Connection
Our Caretakers are reconnecting people with food and farming.
Once again the face of the farmer is on the food. Citizen eaters want to know the story of who grew their food and how it is produced. That connection brings food and farming alive again.

Mission
More young people are turning to organic farming for their livelihood.
Youth is an attitude, and young people of all ages are turning to organic farming as their field of dreams. Farming is a noble task, filled with historical legacy and its own deep culture. To nurture and tend the land is a service of the highest calling. All our Caretakers carry this mission with them at all time.

Legacy
Our Caretaker Team is multigenerational, the heart of family farming.
Transitioning to organic can be a new lifeline for family farms and can provide a sustainable living that can then allow the farm to pass from one generation to the next. The diversity of organic farms means many hands play a part. The growth of organics means farming is once again an option for young people or young-at-heart as a career.

Our Sea Salt for Roasting
About Sea Salt
Natural sea salt is more flavorful and enhances the flavor of foods much better than table salt. Natural sea salt does not contain additives and retains 2-8% naturally-occurring trace minerals by volume. A natural sea salt has irregular shapes, is moist, clumps in your hand, and sometimes has an off-white appearance. When buying sea salt, you must be sure that you are choosing a natural, unprocessed sea salt. Some sea salt is processed just like table salt to look more 'perfect' in the store. As a rule, if the salt being offered looks perfect, it has probably been processed.
What is Sea Salt?
All salt originally came from the sea. The salt you use everyday was probably mined underground, where an ancient ocean may have evaporated. Mined sea salt has lost much of its original quality. Modern processing has washed the salt of dirt, which also removes much of the trace minerals. Erosion of these minerals may also have occurred over millions of years.
Benefits of Sea Salt
People on a salt-restricted diet should know that there is sodium in sea salt, but slightly less than an equal portion of table salt. Many people find that they use less sea salt as compared to table salt, because it is more flavorful, with trace minerals that represent 2-8% less sodium in every pinch.
Why should I use sea salt?
Quality sea salt adds texture and flavor. Crystals -- coarse or fine, may be applied in creative ways in your cooking. Natural sea salt is free of drying agents, free of chemicals for anti-caking, and without added iodine. Sea salt typically has a higher concentration of trace minerals.
How does Nut Hawai'i Extract Salt from Sea Water?
Our natural sea salt is made by evaporating fresh sea water extracting from the ocean outside the Black Sand Beach of the Big Island of Hawai'i by container. The fresh sea water will be filtered by a drinking water filter and evaporated in shallow pools within a sheltered solar greenhouse. Coarse crystals are formed as the ocean water evaporates, leaving behind pure sea salt crystals. Our salt is that pure!
Is sea salt organic?
Organic is a label placed on a food product such as vegetables that meet the requirements of an organic standard. These standards are usually designated by a government or trade association. Sea salt can be considered organic if it is produced in a natural way. Beware of some sea salt that has been processed and really isn't much different than table salt. The differences are difficult to distinguish. There is no organic trade association or government label for organic sea salt in the U.S.
